GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT)- Greenville Fire and Rescue is hosting a Jr. Fire Marshal Academy this week. The camp is open to rising 4th, 5th, and 6th graders, free of charge. The purpose of the camp is to educate youth on fire department operations. The week includes tours of the fire department, CPR training, and pool safety.

Mekenzie Newkirk with Greenville Fire and Rescue said, “we hope it will give them lifelong learning, also for them to take back and teach to their friends, to teach to their family, people in their community. The things that they’ve learned. The hope is that they really take this information and pass it on to others.”

WNCT’s First Alert meteorologist, David Sawyer, was at the camp today, teaching kids the importance of weather safety.
