Greenville man arrested after foot chase on Christmas night, deputies say

A Greenville man has been arrested on firearm charges after a foot chase by deputies on Christmas night.

Marquis D. Rogers, 41, of Greenville was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a stolen firearm and resisting, obstructing and delaying a law enforcement officer.

The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the area of Azalea Street and Jackson Avenue in Greenville in reference to a suspicious individual with a firearm.

The call came in Tuesday around 11:30 p.m.

Deputies arrived on the scene and saw Rogers and another man and approached them to talk.

According to deputies, at that time a foot chase started involving Rogers.

After a short struggle, Rogers was taken into custody.

During the foot chase, Rogers allegedly threw a firearm he had been hiding on him, deputies said.

The weapon was recovered and deputies determined that it had been stolen.

Rogers was sent to the Pitt County Detention Center under a $225,000 bond.
