Greenville, Pitt County consider merging animal services

GREENVILLE, NC (WNCT) – The Greenville City Council said the Pitt County Board of Commissioners has proposed a merger of Greenville and Pitt County animal services.

Commissioners said it would reduce costs, euthanasia, and allow more programs like spaying and neutering for the community.

Mayor Allen Thomas said Greenville Public Safety is presenting a report on whether merging would be efficient.

“There are differences between services on what the county can provide county-wide, and the city can provide and what tolerance level these citizens have in that level of the service they wish to pay for,” Thomas said.

According to the mayor, both parties would have to agree before the decision can go into effect.
