GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — The Greenville Police Department is investigating a deadly traffic accident near the intersection of Greenville Boulevard and Memorial Drive.

It happened around 8:30 Wednesday night at the 700 block of Greenville Boulevard, near where a carnival is set up.

Greenville police said Edward Milton Inners Jr., 68, of Franklinton was attempting to cross the road when he was struck by an eastbound Toyota passenger car driven by 18-year-old Emma Weis of Raleigh.

Inners, who was in town working at a nearby carnival, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic had to be detoured because GPD closed the eastbound lanes of Greenville Blvd. to investigate the accident.

Traffic going westbound towards Dickinson Ave. Extension and Allen Road was not affected.

The crash is still under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
