Greenville police officer suspended pending simple assault investigation

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – A Greenville Police officer has been suspended after deputies charge him with simple assault.

The Greenville Police Department tells 9 On Your Side the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office notified them about the arrest on Thursday night.

GPD says the charges stem from allegations involving Officer Eric Robinson and his ex-wife’s juvenile child. Police say the victim did not require medical attention.

Greenville Police say it happened outside city limits and is being investigated by the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office.  Robinson, a 10 year veteran of GPD, is facing a misdemeanor simple assault charge.

Greenville Police say Robinson has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of both a criminal and internal investigation.
