JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a local scam attacking grocery stores.

A person will call the store stating they just came home from the grocery store and accidentally grabbed someone else’s groceries. This person will offer to bring in the bag of groceries back and will give the store an expensive list of groceries. Some of those include meats, razors and a list of multiple high-dollar items.

Then, their accomplice will call the same grocery store stating they were shorted a bag of groceries and will give the store the same list of items.

The scam operates under a premise that a store believes it is legitimate, due to the previous caller stating they grabbed the wrong bag. The second caller arrives at the store demanding a replacement or refund of the items they allegedly never received.
