Greenville Utilities is starting their spring cleaning. Preventive maintenance on the water distribution system begins this week.
For the next 13 weeks, GUC will be flushing out water pipes throughout the city. The cleaning keeps pipes from rusting and other materials that may come up over time. Cleaning takes place by opening fire hydrants and allowing them to flow freely.
To avoid public inconvenience, crews will be conducting the cleaning from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Officials say if customers have air or discolored water in their water lines from the cleaning, you can quickly fix it yourself.
“You can go and turn on your tub,” said Troy Perkins, Water Resource System Superintendent, “because that’s your biggest water source you have in your house. Let it run for just a few minutes and you should see it clear right up.”
This week the cleaning will take place for areas northeast of the Tar River from Green Street to the water distribution system.
