Health needs assessment circulates ENC to improve care

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — The community health needs assessment is a survey designed to help you get the best care possible when you’re sick.

“We get the community’s input on what they see as the major health needs in their community,” said product director of Health ENC, Will Broughton.

Your input is going to help 33 counties across the east get on the same page with just a click of a mouse.

It will make it easier to see the downfalls and strengths of health care leaders in each area.

“Five counties want to focus on obesity or diabetes,” said Broughton. “We can pair those counties together and as a group try to go out and get grant funding to implement interventions in the area.”

Before this came about the health needs assessment was not uniform.

“One county would refer to chronic disease and include certain types of cancers,” said Broughton. “Another county would talk about chronic disease and not include those cancers.”

This has changed.

“Because we’ll have standardized data,” said Broughton.  “We’ll be able to compare information across county lines and really foster across counties around eastern North Carolina to focus on different health issues.”

Instead of waiting for these survey results to come back, I decided to go out to a doctor’s office and ask people what they think. This is what they had to say:

“I absolutely love it come here two hours away to receive service,” said patient, Vanessa Gaskins. “Just the surgeons and people in general are very nice and very helpful and help you get through any and everything.”

“I think its exceptionally good,” said patient, Gladys Lane. “The doctors, the nurses, the staff; everywhere I’ve come in contact with has given me their full attention.”

“I got it good. I can’t say that for all the doctors because I’m not that sick, so I only go to a few,” said patient, Algi Vaitovas. “So far I’m still vertical, so I love it!”

So now is your opportunity. Fill out the survey, give your opinions and improve your health.
