Holiday parade kicks off in Ayden

Thursday night was the town of Ayden’s annual holiday parade.

The ECU marching pirates drumline will be in this year’s parade.

Laura Todd with the Chamber of Commerce said people should expect a night full of food trucks, hayrides, Christmas carols, lights and more.

“We have Santa’s Village, and in Santa’s village, we have snow, so we have some snow machines and an area where the kids can plan in the snow,” Todd said. “We are also going to have Olaf and Elsa and a walking toy soldier.”

Downtown business owners will be offering giveaways and different crafts.

It is part of the town’s new program called BOLT, Businesses Open Late Thursday.

The purpose is to generate commerce in the downtown district.

BOLT will be held on the next three Thursdays of the month.

Todd said they may continue it beyond the holidays if it is successful.
