Inmate caught after escaping from New Hanover Correctional Center


WILMINGTON, N.C. (WNCT) – An escaped inmate from the New Hanover County Correctional Center is caught after being on the run for five days.Stephen Singleton was captured Monday evening by New Hanover County sheriff’s deputies after a vehicle chase that ended in a crash on Carolina Beach Road.Singleton was driving a stolen vehicle and was injured in the crash.  He escaped July 20.Singleton, 34, was serving sentences for habitual misdemeanor assault and larceny and was due for release in January 2018.  He is from the Wilmington area.Singleton will face charges for felony escape from prison and additional charges based on any other crimes he committed while on escape.
