WINDSOR, NC (WNCT) – Authorities are still investigating after an inmate died after a fight at Bertie Correctional Institution in Windsor.
One unit remains under modified lockdown.
Five inmates are believed to have been involved in the Friday night fight. Two were taken to the hospital and one died on Saturday afternoon.
Then, there was another fight Saturday putting a third inmate in the hospital. He’s in stable condition and is expected back to the prison soon.

One inmate has died following a fight Friday night at the Bertie Correctional Institution.
The Department of Public Safety and Windsor Police Department are investigating after five inmates were involved in a fight around 10:30 p.m. Friday night.
Correctional staff broke up the fight. Two inmates were taken to the hospital for injuries sustained during the confrontation.
24-year-old Joleski Floyd died at the hospital Saturday afternoon. He was serving a 10 to 13-year sentence for second-degree murder. The other inmate was treated for a minor injury and is now back at Bertie Correctional Institution.
Floyd has been incarcerated prison since January 2010, after he was convicted in connection with the July 2008 shooting death of Derrick Barden in Warsaw
On Saturday morning, another fight broke out. One inmate was injured and is at the hospital listed in stable condition.
Bertie Correctional is on a modified lockdown while the investigation is ongoing.
