GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) –  Kids in the Greenville area were learning more about reading Saturday through an unusual source, comic books.

Saturday was Free Comic Book Day in Greenville and many stores joined forces with the Greenville Police Department to help provide summer reading materials to local children in the community.

Greenville Police Athletic Coordinator Gary Davis hopes more kids get involved in comic books.

“The first comic book I read was a Daredevil comic,” said Davis. “When I read that Daredevil comic, it just opened up reading to me. I loved reading after that. I hope that, with this program that we’re kicking off, that we can inspire that same level of reading in our kids.”

Davis hopes more kids get involved in comic books and said it could make a huge impact on kids’ lives.

GPD plans to host the event again in the near future.
