Law enforcement investigate deadly shooting in Plymouth

PLYMOUTH, N.C. (WNCT) – An investigation is ongoing in Plymouth into a Wednesday night shooting.

The shooting happened around 9 p.m. in the 200 block of Wilson Street.

Family members heard what they thought were fireworks, and ultimately turned out to be gun shots.

A family member has identified the victim as 25-year-old Shakur Hedgebeth.

His family said he just celebrated his 25th birthday.

According to Plymouth Police Department this is an active investigation.

Law enforcement is working with the State Bureau of Investigation to try and solve the case.

Town officials tell me that tragic incidents like this don’t happen often in Plymouth

“It’s just a devastating event that has taken place. We do not have this type of thing happen on a regular basis. It’s very upsetting,” said Brian Roth, Mayor of Plymouth.
