Lenoir County participating in ‘National Prescription Drug Take Back Day’ Saturday

Happening Saturday, Lenoir County is participating in ‘National Prescription Drug Take Back Day’ with multiple medicine drops around the County.

This isn’t the first time the county is participating in something like this.

The Sheriff’s Office says in years past its generated big success.

They say it’s a problem in Lenoir County and has been for a few years.

Depending on the week, deputies can respond to multiple cases a day, sometimes with not the best outcome.

“By doing this, when you get this medicine out of the house that takes away that one possibility of somebody overdosing,” said Sheriff Ronnie Ingram.

The Sheriff’s Office says most of the cases are either people accidentally taking too many or the wrong prescription and in extreme cases doing it or taking too many intentionally.

At these drops, the Sheriff’s Office not only hopes to collect unwanted medicines, but raise awareness on the national opioid crisis.
