Throughout the month of July, the 9 On Your Side team is hitting the road, highlighting all eastern North Carolina has to offer in our “Living Local” segments.
On July 3, we stopped by Washington for a river tour, courtesy of the North Carolina Estuarium.
This relaxing boat ride takes passengers through the Tar-Pamlico river basin.
Volunteer captain Bill Warr Warr shared some of Washington’s history, from its time as one of the main trade ports in the East.
“There was a time when it rivaled, not say Boston or New York, but harbors like Wilmington, Charleston (that) people know t these days as a main harbor,” said Warr. “For many years, Washington had that purpose.”
The river tour is booked up for about two to three weeks, so you have to call to make a reservation.
