Local DOT workers compete in statewide Roadeo competition


RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCT) – The winners of the regional NCDOT “Equipment Roadeos” in Eastern North Carolina will be taking part in the statewide competition on Tuesday.

The local DOT workers will now compete in Raleigh to determine who can best maneuver a dump truck, tractor, backhoe, or motor.

The winners from the May competition in Washington, N.C. are as follows.

Single axle truck – Jimmy Whaley, Lenoir County Bridge

Lowboy Truck – Whitford Miller, Craven County Maintenance

Tractor Mower – Richard Baylis, Carteret County Maintenance

Backhoe – Caleb Johnson, Beaufort County Maintenance

Motor Grader – Jeffrey Dunning, Pitt County Maintenance

Mechanic – Robert Coombs, New Bern Equipment (Carteret County)

Tandem Axle Dump Truck – Scotty Jones, Craven County Maintenance
