People across the country celebrated Mother’s Day Sunday.
That includes here in the East.
One family celebrated by welcoming a new addition, born on Sunday morning.
“My Mother’s Day has been perfect,” Caitlyn Chandler said.
Eight-pound, 20-inch Harper Marie Chandler was born three days late at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
However, she could not have come at a more perfect time.
“It was one of the best Mother’s Day presents I could have asked for,” Caitlyn said.
Harper is the newest addition to the Chandler family from Nashville outside of Rocky Mount.
The proud parents are Jake and Caitlyn.
“We have already been close together but this brought us even closer,” Jake said.
The couple did not know the gender of their baby until she was born Sunday morning at 6:13 a.m.
“She is our first and only little girl, and I get to share this day with her for every year now,” Caitlyn said.
Caitlyn said having Jamie, her first child, at Vidant almost four years ago gave her a new found appreciation for the women in her life.
“I do not think I realized the struggle and hard work mothers put in, but it is definitely a huge act of love,” Caitlyn said.
Those same women surrounded her in the hospital room as she welcomed Harper into this world.
“Harper is actually my mother-in-laws maiden name and my husband’s middle name,” Caitlyn said.
Caitlyn said she hopes Harper will one day too become a mother and that everyone’s Mother’s Day was as perfect as hers was.
“I hope everybody knows just how special and important your mother is and to say that you love them,” Caitlyn said.
