A local group continues to educate the community on human trafficking.
ENC Stop Human Trafficking held their education and awareness meeting today in Washington teaching community members the red flags of human trafficking.
Signs include someone being unable to leave their home or evidence of being controlled mentally and physically.
The group’s outreach coordinator said there are connections between human trafficking, substance abuse, and gang activity.
“If a community isn’t aware of these connections and how it relates human trafficking, how it lends itself to vulnerable population, how it lends itself to more people being trafficked, men, women children, boys, and girls, then we need to come in and make the connection for them,” said Melissa Sampson, ENC Stop Human Trafficking community outreach coordinator.
The group’s next meeting is April 17th, from 3 to 5 o’clock at the Wilson County Library.
