Local high school student receives half a million dollars in scholarships

KINSTON, NC (WNCT) – An Eastern North Carolina high school student received over $500,000 in scholarships.

North Lenoir High School Valedictorian Holly Holder will be attending Duke University in the fall. She was granted five scholarships, including the Benjamin and Duke scholarship, an Honors College scholarship at ECU, and a $20,000 Coca-Cola scholarship.

“It is very surreal,” said Holder. “It’s kind of the thing where I pinch myself every time I think about it and it doesn’t seem real. I am very fortunate and I owe to the people who have helped me get to this place.”

Holder sayid she plans to study political science or history. Her dream is to become a civil rights lawyer.
