JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) - A 10K charity race will close several roads around downtown Jacksonville on Saturday.
The 2019 "Beat the Bridge" race, operated by the Jacksonville Sports Commission to benefit the Semper Fi Fund, will take place on Saturday, May 18, from 7:30 a.m. until Noon.
The 10K race route begins and ends at Riverwalk Crossing Park and extends to Jacksonville Landing, downtown, Bayshore Estates, and to Lejeune Memorial Gardens.
During the race, multiple streets across downtown Jacksonville - including parts of Marine Blvd, Old and New Bridge Streets, and several streets in the Bayshore Estates neighborhood - will be affected by the race.
Streets along the race route will be open for drivers, but police will stop traffic to give priority to the runners during the timed 10K race. Police advise everyone traveling in the race area on Saturday to drive carefully and watch for runners on the road.
Race organizers say more than 400 racers have registered to participate in the 10K run.
