AYDEN, N.C. (WNCT) - An Ayden Middle School student has been charged after poking five classmates with a diabetes lancet Thursday afternoon, Ayden police said.
Ayden Police Department Chief Barry Stanley said that a sixth grader has been charged with five counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
According to police, the student found a diabetes lancet, which is a small needle diabetes patients use to prick their fingers and poked five classmates.
The needle did not belong to any of the students involved.
The school alerted the students' parents, and each affected child visited the school nurse, who recommended their parents take them to a doctor for evaluation.
Those students were then taken to the hospital by their parents.
