Belhaven teen accused of making false threat to school after getting upset over rumor

WASHINGTON, N.C. (WNCT) - An 18-year-old Northside High School student has been accused of making a false threat to the school after getting upset over a rumor about him and an unidentified girl, deputies said.

Austin S. Walden,18, of Belhaven, was charged with making a false threat of mass violence on an educational property.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office said that two students informed the Northside High School Resource Officer Milton Long about the threat made by Walden.

It was known that Walden is a Northside High School student.

The report came in on Tuesday around 9 a.m. and authorities conducted an investigation.

Deputies said that Walden made the false threat because he was upset over a rumor about him and an unidentified girl at the same school.

After several interviews and searches were conducted, Long charged Walden with the felony.

No gun was located on campus.

Walden was processed and was released on a $5,500 bond.
