City of Greenville reviewing safety of uptown area

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) - The city of Greenville is reviewing the safety of the uptown area.

Uptown business owners discussed their opinions on the growth and activity in the area.

Greenville police shared their short- and long-term initiatives, which include meeting with bar and club owners and increasing lighting.

The police department is also looking to add a police substation near the uptown area.

Sup Dogs owner Brett Oliverio said it's great to get the uptown and downtown community together.

"I think businesses need to do a better job of making sure that the people inside of their establishments, when they leave at three in the morning, are remaining safe,” said Brett Oliverio, Sup Dogs owner. “It can’t all fall on the police department "

ECU alcohol use researchers also shared their data from a three-year-old study performed in Greenville.
