Crews respond to 2 overnight Craven County fires; 1 deemed suspicious

Fire fighters responded to two unrelated fires that occurred overnight in Craven County, one of which is believed to have been intentional.

The first fire was at Croatan Village, an assisted living facility in James City.

Crews were called there at 11:30 p.m.

The fire started in the laundry room, but the sprinkler system contained fire.

Everyone was evacuated, and no one was injured.

A canopy was set up for residents until they could return to their rooms.

The second fire occurred at a Vanceboro home on Craven Farms Raod.

Crews responded around 1:30 a.m.

The fire appeared to have been set intentionally, according to Craven County Emergency Services director Stanley Kite.

The Craven County Sheriff's Office has been called in to help investigate.

The people who lived there had moved out, and no one was hurt.
