GoFundMe started for NC trooper shot in line of duty

WILSON, N.C. (WNCN) - A GoFundMe account has been established to help a North Carolina State trooper who was shot in the line of duty in Wilson County on Monday.

Trooper Daniel C. Harrell was shot in the face and neck during a traffic stop on Haynes Road in Wilson County, authorities say.  

Harrell was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville for treatment following the shooting. He was released from the hospital on Wednesday.

He's a five-year veteran assigned to Wilson County.

Photos posted to Facebook by the North Carolina Troopers Association show Harrell being helped into a cruiser at the hospital. 

His family has asked for privacy.
