Investigation underway after Pitt Co. Sheriff candidate's sign is vandalized

PITT CO., N.C. (WNCT) - An investigation is underway after a campaign sign is vandalized in Pitt County.

Paula Dance, a Democratic candidate running for Pitt County Sheriff, said she noticed one of her signs had been vandalized near Stokes Sunday morning.

The sign had been spray painted, and a confederate flag had been placed over Dance's face.

Dance said the sign is now in the possession of the Pitt County Sheriff's Office. An investigation is underway and criminal charges could be filed.

Dance said she was still shaken about what she saw. In a Facebook post Sunday, Dance said, "No other candidate has to face this type of disrespect. This is 2018!"
