Jacksonville police charge 3 men with looting store during Florence

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) - Three men were arrested after police conducted an investigation into a looting incident reported at a retail store in Jacksonville during Florence.

Jalen J. Martin, 18, and Nahriek S. Dorsey, 23, were charged with felony breaking and entering, trespass during an emergency, larceny after breaking and entering, obtaining property by false pretense, misdemeanor injury to real property and curfew violation.

James M. Brooks, 18, was charged with felony breaking and entering, trespass during an emergency, larceny after breaking and entering, misdemeanor injury to real property and curfew violation.

During Florence, the Jacksonville Police Department responded to The Athlete's Foot located on 2075 North Marine Boulevard on September 14 at 10:27 a.m.

Police said they discovered a broken front window.

Due to the severity of Florence, the investigation was held until police were able to contact the store owners and verify any stolen property.

Three suspects were reportedly seen entering the business and fleeing the scene, police said.

The investigation led to an undercover operation on Tuesday in which the suspects, who were utilizing the online app “Letgo”, attempted to sell the stolen goods to undercover officers.

All suspects were charged and taken into custody.

Police said they recovered dozens of pairs of stolen shoes, dozens of stolen articles of clothing, many with security devices and tags still attached.

“The seamless teamwork of the Jacksonville Police Detective Division and Special Operations Division Detectives, along with the assistance from the Patrol Division, is commendable” said Chief Mike Yaniero, Director of Public Safety.

They were given a $70,000 bond.

The case is still under investigation.
