J.H. Rose hosts annual Pitt County Special Olympics

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) - J.H. Rose High School hosted the annual Pitt County Special Olympics Games Friday.

About 400 athletes participated in track and field events.

Activities ranged from the softball throw to the long jump.

Participants spent eight weeks preparing for the games.

Organizers said the event was possible because of teamwork.

“This event is important because it brings a whole bunch of community partners,” said Chasity McCurdy, local coordinator for the Pitt County Special Olympics. “It's definitely a great collaboration between the city of Greenville, Recreation and Parks, and Pitt County Schools and a lot of local vendors.”

More than 600 volunteers participated.
