N.C. State Highway Patrol places third in cruiser contest

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) - The North Carolina State Highway Patrol has placed third in a nationwide contest for Best Looking Cruiser.

The contest was put on by the American Association of State Troopers.

The backdrop for the photo is Pilot Mountain in Surry County.

The submission was in tribute to Trooper Samuel Bullard, who was stationed in the county.

Trooper Doug Coley said Bullard died in May while pursuing a suspect.

"We are a family,” said Coley. “Any time we lose someone in the family, it hurts the whole organization. This was a way we can honor him."

The cruiser will be featured in a calendar of" best cruisers for 2019.

All proceeds from calendars go to fallen troopers.

Kentucky state police and Georgia state police took the top two spots.
