New Bern still clearing Hurricane Florence debris

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) - The city of New Bern is still working to clear debris left behind by Hurricane Florence.

At least 31,000 tons of debris has been removed from different areas across the city.

Nine crews from across the state have come to the city to help with recovery efforts, and 41 trucks started Wednesday morning to clean up leftover damages.

“Our hearts and thoughts go out to the folks who have nothing, whose homes were destroyed,” said Colleen Roberts, New Bern’s public information officer.

Leaders are preparing for the high winds that may cause downed trees and power outages across the city.

On Thursday morning, the city will decide on if the emergency operations center on Highway 55 West will open.

If you do experience a power outage in New Bern, call 252-636-4070.
