Pitt Co. Schools pushing tip line to combat bullying, school threats

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) - Pitt County School officials are working to raise awareness about a tip line for students, parents and staff.

The tip line, located in the Pitt County Schools app, will allow people to report a variety of problems.

"They'll be able to submit reports of bullying, threats. They can take pictures, include that as well and screen shots," said Travis Lewis, spokesperson for the school district.

While the tip line was available for the 2017-2018 school year, Lewis said many students and staff were unaware.

The tip line is easy to use. You select the issue, give a report, and choose whether to put down contact information or submit it anonymously.

"It's free," Lewis said. "There's no cost at all, and we do utilize this information. When a report is submitted through the tip line, it goes immediately to the school principal and the district office."

Lewis said the district is creating posters to promote the tip line. Those posters will be placed in every classroom for the upcoming school year.
