COROLLA, N.C. (WAVY) -- A wild horse died after being struck by a car on the beach Saturday night, according to a Facebook post by the Corolla Wild Horse Fund.
The post says the mare was killed instantly after it was hit by a local driving on the beach road.
The horse's stallion stayed over the mare's body until it was buried Sunday morning, the post continued.
The group is encouraging everyone to be cautious when driving on the beach roads, particularly at night.
