Lockdown lifted at New Bern High School after tip of potential weapon on campus

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – A lockdown has been lifted for New Bern High School.

The Director of Public Relations for Craven County Schools, Jennifer Wagner, says the school went into lockdown at 10:10 Wednesday morning due to a tip that was communicated regarding a potential weapon on campus.

Wagner says the New Bern Police Department and school administration acted quickly and the student was picked up off campus, talked to, then later released. The lockdown was lifted at approximately 10:45 a.m.

Wagner says student and staff safety is of the utmost important to the school system and the presence of any weapons or weapon-like items won’t be tolerated.

The school system is asking parents to talk to their children about the situation and remind them that any type of weapon or weapon-like item is prohibited on school property.

Students are encouraged to tell any information they may be aware of to their teachers and administrators to they can help in keeping the school safe.

In Wednesday’s incident, no charges were filed and nothing dangerous was found. The item reported was not a weapon, but a longboard (skateboard).
