Make it Monday: Rustic pumpkin trio

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – In this week’s Make It Monday, we’re sticking with fall and showing off rustic wood pumpkins would make the perfect centerpiece for Thanksgiving.

We stopped by Artisan’s Decorative Accessories and Fine Gifts in Greenville where Wendy Zock is showing us how to make the set of pumpkins.

Here’s what you’ll need:

– three cuts of a 2×4

– wooden dowel

– tape or vinyl design

– paint

– brushes

– twine

This project is great for everyone and you can do it with or without tools.

If you don’t have a saw, you can have your 2×4 cut at your local home improvement store. You want three blocks, in different sizes.

You also want to cut stems from the wooden dowel. Keep these about the same size.

Next, paint your pumpkin blocks one solid color. We chose an off white for this demonstration. Once the blocks are dry, get your tape or vinyl.

“You can get super creative,” said Wendy Zock. “You can use electrical tape, price tag stickers, any shape you would want to do for any season and you’re just going to apply that on.”

Then, paint over with your second color. We chose orange. It may take a few layers to get the shade you want

While you’re waiting for your blocks to dry, paint your stems brown.

Once your blocks are dry, carefully peel off your tape to expose the designs. Wendy chose to also use a stain on top of the paint and then distress her pumpkins with sandpaper.

Now, get your stems. You can use wood glue to connect the stem to the block, or you can drill a hole in the top of the block so the stem fits into it. Either option works well for this project.

Tie the top with a ribbon or twine and you have a festive pumpkin trio perfect for any Thanksgiving table!
