Make it Monday: Tabletop flag holders

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – It’s only appropriate that this week’s Make It Monday is themed for the Fourth of July with some red, white and blue.

We stopped by Lowe’s on 10th Street in Greenville for a DIY decoration from the Lowe’s Creative ideas collection.

“It’s something that’s very easy to do, very inexpensive and it’s fun to do with the family,” said store manager Brian Edwards.

With just a few tools and materials, these table top flag holders are fun and easy to create.

Here’s what you’ll need:

– A drill

– A hacksaw

– turned post cap

– flat post cap

– spray paint

– mini American flag

To start, measure the screw coming out of your post cap and figure out how much excess to get rid of. Carefully use a hacksaw to remove the extra.

“You simply take your drill and drill a hole through the center of the turned post cap and right through the top of the flat post cap. Once you’ve done that you will screw that into here and you will have a nice base,” said Edwards.

At the top of the post cap, drill another hole into the top. This will be for the flag.

Once that step is done, you can use painter’s tape to create stripes to spray paint over.

You can also use decals in other shapes, like stars, to spray paint other designs.

Once done, insert the flag.

While these ones are great for summer, you can get creative with any type of design or color.

“Any type of flag that you may have you can put in here,” said Edwards. “After you finish the Fourth of July, since we’re in Greenville you can paint them and put an ECU flag in there and take them to the game with us.”
