Man arrested on firearm charges after vehicle chase in Rocky Mount

A man was arrested on firearm charges following a vehicle chase in Rocky Mount.

The Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle for an expired N.C. registration plate on Fairview in Rocky Mount on Thursday.

According to a press release, the vehicle sped off and Deputy Silver and Detective Johnson gave chase.

The vehicle was eventually stopped several miles away on Nobles Millpond Road.

Officials said that Raekwon Briggs was found to be the driver of the vehicle.

Briggs is a convicted felon and there were two firearms inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle, officials said.

He was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon and felony flee to elude.

Briggs was sent to the Edgecombe County Detention Center under a $70,000 bond.
