FRISCO, N.C. (WAVY) – A 71-year-old man got caught in a rip current off of Sailfish Drive in Frisco Friday afternoon and drowned.
Dare County emergency dispatchers were notified about the incident at 3:24 p.m. Medics, deputies and park rangers all responded to the scene and were unable to resuscitate the man.
This is the second swimming-related death off Cape Hatteras National Seashore beaches over the last two days.
On Thursday, a 67-year-old man from North Carolina drowned in the ocean off of Ocracoke Island in Hyde County.
“We are saddened by these tragic events, and our hearts go out to the families and friends of the victims,” said Outer Banks Group Superintendent David Hallac.
Officials want to remind swimmers that if you get caught in a rip current, don’t swim against the current. Instead, try to stay calm and swim across the current, parallel to the shore and slowly work your way back to the beach at an angle. Signal for help if you need it.
