A Tennessee man who was captured in 2016 in North Carolina with a girl he kidnapped from Missouri has been sentenced to more than 58 years in prison on child sex crimes related to the kidnapping.
Kenneth D. Whitehead, of Bristol, Tennessee, was sentenced on Monday to 699 months in prison, after he was convicted on two counts of statutory rape of a child under 15.
Authorities say in 2016, Whitehead was wanted out of Dent County, Missouri for kidnapping a 13-year-old girl there.
He was later found with the girl at the North Mills Campground in the Pisgah National Forest in western North Carolina.
Both Whitehead and the girl were taken to the Henderson County, N.C. Sheriff’s Office, where they spoke with detectives.
Detectives later charged Whitehead with two felony counts of first-degree statutory rape of a child under 15.
The girl was later reunited with her family.
