SANFORD, N.C. (WNCN) – A man was killed in a shooting and another was stabbed multiple times at a community event center in Sanford early Saturday, police say.

The incident was reported just after 1 a.m. at the M.T. Burch Center located at 1122 Boykin Ave., according to a news release from Sanford police.

Police arrived and found two victims at the event center.

Derrick Dion Williams, 24, of Sanford, suffered “multiple gunshot wounds” and died at the scene, the news release said.

A 22-year-old man of Sanford was injured with multiple stab wounds, police said. The stabbing victim was taken to Central Carolina Hospital for treatment.

Sanford police said they have identified two suspects, but have not released their names. Police said they have active warrants for their arrest on murder and attempted murder charges.

“We are actively searching for the suspects at this time,” the news release said.

The M.T. Burch Center says on its website that it “was established in 2008 to provide a safe place for teens and adults to enjoy community events.”
