DURHAM, NC (WNCN) – A man was shot and killed in broad daylight in Durham on Saturday afternoon.
The incident was reported at apartments in the area of the 1200 block of Dayton Street.
Officers were dispatched to a shooting call near Building 55 in the McDougald Terrace public housing complex just after 1:20 p.m., Durham Police said.
When they arrived they found a deceased man, later identified as Kevin Bowling, 33, of Durham, police said.
A woman at the scene identified herself as Bowling’s mother and she says that she wants justice for her son, but didn’t want to speak to on camera.
Many of the victim’s family was at the scene – Bowling’s father and his sisters along with his mom – and the community was surrounding them and comforting them.
A woman who did not want her name used said her little daughter was playing in the backyard when the shots were fired.
“That’s like my backyard… that is our backyard and I don’t want my baby was like they’re killing him, like, I mean I hear the gunshots and see her and I’m thinking about my child. So I grab her and I just called the police. (That) was the only thing I could do,” the woman said.
A car was towed away from the scene and crime scene tape was removed around 5:30 p.m.
No information about a suspect was supplied by police.
