Marines recognized for Hurricane Florence recovery efforts

News

Marines from Camp Lejeune were being recognized for the heroic efforts this time outside the battlefield.

First Baptist Church in Richlands held an appreciation dinner for 21 marines who volunteered their time to help clean up the town after Hurricane Florence.

More than 100 yards of debris was cleared to help restore some mobility back into the area.

Marines say fallen trees and power lines made it a difficult task for homeowners to get around.

Time was also contributed to helping clean up two local churches and putting tarps on damaged roofs.

Thursday evening, the town mayor awarded 21 marines a certificate of appreciation.

Duke energy along with command staff also presented letters of appreciation.
