WASHINGTON, D.C. (WNCT) – A five-year-old boy from Maryland who is battling leukemia had the time of his life on Friday, fighting on this day for good and reminding us all what really matters.
Kaheem, who is now better known as ‘Super Kaheem’, spent a very special day battling the “bad guys” around the nation’s capital in a wish day that he — and the thousands of people who cheered him on along the way — won’t soon forget.
Kaheem’s wish was to be a superhero, and WTTG-TV partnered with Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic to make it happen. With the help of many law enforcement agencies and generous supporters around the D.C. area, Kaheem’s wish came true– and the smile on his face was absolutely everything.
He started his day at the Bethesda Hyatt, where he was called upon by the Superhero Council to save D.C. from bad guys, a challenge he was happy to accept. Kaheem then hopped in a fire truck and hitched a ride to WTTG-TV, where he was transformed into a real superhero– Super Kaheem! Then, he drank a special potion to give him the superhero powers he needed to save the day.
Kaheem’s adventure took him to National Harbor, where he saved Santa — who was stuck at the top of the Capital Wheel.
He then rode a boat across the river, eventually making his way to the U.S. Capitol for another clue.
Kaheem was called to the speaker’s office — Speaker Paul Ryan, that is — where he watched a special video from Speaker Ryan himself, and then helped find a missing flag!
After some refueling (pizza) and a little nap, Kaheem was on to his next task. He saved Christmas from The Grinch at the National Theatre.
Then on his final mission of the day, he saved a few D.C.’s sports mascots after they were somehow tied up on top of the Newseum.
Through all the stops and surprises, Kaheem was always smiling. On social media, his fans followed #KaheemSavesDC, many with tissues in hand.
