Mom shot while holding baby inside Wake County home; Man arrested


WENDELL, N.C. (WNCN) – A woman shot while holding here baby at a home on Alfreda Court Friday evening in Wendell.

Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison confirmed Destiny Solange Davis, 21, was shot at 3309 Alfreda Ct. around 6 p.m. and transferred to the hospital.

Kevin Deshaun Watkins, 36, of Knightdale, was taken into custody in connection with the shooting, authorities said.

Harrison said Watkins was asked to leave a get-together at the house after an argument.

Watkins left, then came back and shot into the house, hitting Davis. She was holding her 2-month-old child at the time. The child was not hurt in the incident.

Ethelene Smith said she heard the gunshots and got down immediately.

“My heart was so shook up I didn’t know what to do,” Smith said. “We were worrying about the baby.”

She said about a dozen family members were at the house when the argument started.

“My aunt told him to get out and he wouldn’t go when they finally got him out the door he said I will be back,” Smith said.

Watkins was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury as well as discharging a weapon into occupied property causing serious bodily injury.

He is being held in the Wake County Detention Center under a $500,000 secured bond.
