Money, volunteers on the way for Florence recovery in Lenoir County

A check worth $33,750 is on its way to Lenoir County for Hurricane Florence recovery.

The money is by way of the North Carolina Community Foundation.

Also on the way, several groups of volunteers from across North Carolina and the United States.

The first group of volunteers is set to arrive this Sunday from Davidson College.

Members will perform home repairs, electrical work and other chores on homes that were impacted by Florence.

“The members that are coming to Kinston will tell us if they know how to do plumbing, electrical work, carpentry work,” said Adrian King, director of Kinston Area Recovery Efforts. “All the things you’d do in restoring a home.”

Kinston Area Recovery Efforts also known as K.A.R.E. helps to bring in volunteer groups.

According to King, time donated by volunteer groups last year added up to more than $123,000.

Those groups were working on homes damaged during Hurricane Matthew.
