Body of missing man found in capsized boat, police say

The body of a missing 65-year-old man was found inside his capsized boat Monday morning, police say.

U.S. Coast Guard officials said Paul Youngk had been last seen on Saturday, April 20, on his sailing vessel Grafin, which had run aground off Fort Norfolk along the Elizabeth River.

Coast Guard officials said Youngk was reportedly on the boat when it began taking on water and eventually submerged early Sunday morning.

Norfolk Police said dispatchers received a call around 5:20 a.m. on Sunday about a capsized boat about 15 feet from shore in the 500 block of Front Street. First responders tried to find the owner of the boat but were unsuccessful.

he Coast Guard said its search for Youngk was suspended Sunday night.

Several agencies responded to the area over the weekend to investigate, including the Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC), the Norfolk Police Department, Norfolk Fire-Rescue and the Hampton Police Division.

Police said crews recovered Youngk’s body from his boat around 8:45 a.m. on Monday. The case has been classified as an undetermined death.
