Police in Duluth, Minnesota are mourning the slaying of a fellow officer.
Duluth Police Department K9 Officer Haas was shot and killed while responding to a domestic violence call on Sunday.
Duluth Police Department officers responded to a report of a domestic assault with a weapon at a residence. Officers arrived at the scene and located a male suspect in the home. They began to negotiate with him for his arrest.
After an hour of negotiations, the suspect began firing at officers striking one officer, causing a non-life threatening injury and killing his K-9 partner, Haas.
An officer returned fire. Upon gaining access to the room where the suspect was located they found the suspect deceased.
The injured officer has been released from the hospital.
Haas celebrated his third birthday just a few days ago. The Belgian Malinois came to the Duluth Police Department from the Netherlands.
