If you didn’t make it to those after-Christmas sales, never fear! There are still great deals to be had in January. As a new year dawns, deals abound for some types of products. In other cases, it pays to wait.

Most people include getting fit on their list of New Year’s resolutions, which is why January is a great time to sign up for a gym membership. Expect gyms to waive extra fees, offer free trials, or give discounted rates to new members in January. Make sure you read your gym contract carefully, though. Don’t sign up for a lengthy contract if you’re not sure you’ll be as enthusiastic come February.

If going to the gym is something you don’t enjoy, perhaps you prefer to get in shape at home? January is generally the best month of the year to shop fitness equipment. In fact, Editors Choice consumer group saw almost double the number of fitness deals in January compared with almost any other month of the year in 2018.

January is a great time to buy clothing in general, but you’ll find some of the best deals on winter coats. Walmart should be your first port of call if you’re looking for inexpensive styles. Those looking for better-quality pieces will find the designer discounts at Amazon, where Kenneth Cole, Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein wool coats will see their most substantial price drops of the season. If you like the outdoors, look for impressive savings at The North Face and Eddie Bauer.

Black Friday is the very best time of year to shop for electronics, but thanks to the Consumer Electronics Show, which starts Tuesday, January is also a good time to look for deals on electronics. However, hold off shopping until after the event ends at the end of this week, that’s when lots of new models get announced. Older models will likely see discounts as the market prepares for the release of these new gadgets and TVs.

If you missed out on Black Friday TV deals, wait a few more weeks when you’ll see some discounts in this category in the run-up to the Super Bowl in February. Outside of November, you’ll see the best deals around big shopping holidays like Presidents Day, so wait until February if you’re really itching to buy a new set.

You’ll see fewer laptop and desktop deals in January than in either February or March. If you’re desperate to upgrade your computer, hold out until Presidents Day in February when models like Dell usually hold holiday sales. The holiday falls on February 18 this year.
