Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune celebrates 75th anniversary

A special birthday celebration brought out corpsmen both past and present aboard Camp Lejeune on Tuesday.

Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune celebrated the 75th anniversary of welcoming its first patient.

Since the hospital first opened its doors, numerous improvements to technology and care have been made. Most recently, it was certified as a Level III trauma center.

“We’re hoping that we get bigger and better resources and better facilities so that we can get more patients taken care of,” saidCapt. Shelley Perkins, executive officer of NMCCL. “Maybe we can get a parking garage and some other services that will help our patients as well.”

Vice Admiral Michael Cowan (RET), former NMCCL commanding officer, gave the keynote address.

Corpsmen raised a commemorative flag for the occasion before heading inside to cut the cake.
