CARY, N.C. (WNCN) – Cary police have arrested the man they believe shot and killed a Cary woman Friday night.
David Sloan Williams, 55, of Stone Home Lane, Raleigh has been charged with murder in the death of Michele Kennington Williams, 51, of Collington Drive in Cary.
On Saturday, Cary police confirmed that Michele Williams was the estranged wife of the suspect in her death.
A friend said that Michele Williams was an elementary school teacher at Timber Drive Elementary in Garner.
The incident was reported Friday at 6:38 p.m., when police responded to a call of shots fired at 1219 Collington Drive in Cary.
Upon arrival, they found only a female, deceased in a vehicle.
Just after the shooting, neighbors began calling 911.
“It was a ton of gun shots – maybe six or seven or eight,” one caller said.
One caller says she sat with Michele Williams as she was bleeding from her wounds.
“I would have to guess a gunshot wound to the head – blood in the front of the face,” another 911 caller said.
Police said witnesses reported seeing a man get out of a car and fire shots at one of the townhouses and at a vehicle before driving off.
At about 7:15 p.m., David Williams surrendered to officers working at Cary Towne Center.
“Our hearts are heavy for this grieving family during what is supposed to be a joyous time of year,” said Capt. Randall Rhyne of Cary’s Criminal Investigation Division. “We hope our quick apprehension of the suspect brings some degree of solace to our victim’s family and our community as a whole.”
