New Bern national cemetery looking for ‘wreath sponsorships’ during holiday season

The holiday season will be here before we know it.

One organization in New Bern is helping remember those Veterans who fought for our nation.

It’s called ‘Wreaths Across America’.

New Bern is home to the largest National Cemetery in North Carolina.

For the past few years, veterans and volunteers work around the clock to make sure every headstone has a wreath on it.

Organizers say the biggest issue they run into are people not donating far enough in advance.

This time of the month is the biggest push for the organization.

“Every wreath has to be sponsored and it has to be sponsored before December 3rd,” said coordinator for the organization, Kevin Yates.

“They all come from Maine and by December 3rd gives the company time to prepare them and get them on trucks and shipped to New Bern.”

If you’re interested in in sponsoring a wreath, they’re $15.

You can buy them through their website or Facebook page.

Organizers say this year is even more important because the cemetery and surrounding areas suffered from flood waters during Hurricane Florence.
